I found Ernestine in the 1910 census as the husband of Herman Tiedemann. They were living in Colorado. I could not find her in 1900 when she should have been living at home with her parents. Here is a Greene family website http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~greenefamily/genealogy/greenfamily/Greenfamily.html I believe you will find information on the general's descendants here. In 1910 Ernestine was said to be 22 years old. Can you be more specific as to when and where she was born? Where did she meet Herman? Was you grandmother Mary Louise listed in the 1910 census or were there other children born later? I assume Ernest F. was Ernestine's father. Is this correct? Where did Ernest live? When was he born and when did he die? Who was his wife's name? Did Ernestine have any siblings? You may not know the answer to all these questions, but what you do know will provide building blocks from which you can find out more. Maybe an aunt or uncle or a cousin remembers more about the family than your mother does. Ernestine's death certificate should provide some of this information, like her parents names, where she was born. Her marriage certificate also will have helpful information. These can be obtained from the state or county where she was married or died. New York should have a record of your mother's birth. While going to school in New York in the late 1950s, I decided to visit the Mid-Hudson town where my grandmother was born, raised and married. The town clerk showed me the book listing my grandparents 1904 marriage record. Bill Notify Administrator about this message?
