tThank you. Tha link worked. This gives your line from Christopher > James > Elisha > Elisha > James > James > John of Warwick. The latter three come from "The Greenes of Rhode Island," by Louise Brownell Clarke. Clarke carried this line down to Christopher's father, James. But her information on James differs from yours. tribalpages ......................... Clarke b 5 Oct 1761 ........................ b 11 Oct 1761 d 1 June 1842 ....................... d 21 Jan 1844 m 19 Aug 1784 Susanah Lynch ......... "no record of marriage" RI Vital Records does have the marriage of a James Greene, s/o Elisha deceased in Portsmouth 19 Aug 1784 to Susannah Lynch. Clarke shows this marriage as the third marriage for James, son of Elisha (Sr.). Clarke wrote about James (1761-1844) "He is mentioned in deed as 'James Greene of Cranston'. From his grandfather's will he received an equal share with his brothers. ... We have no record of his marriage, and as no wife is assigned to him in the deed referred to, where his brothers' wives are all mentioned, it is probable he died unmarried." The general's line is John > James > Jabez > Nathanael > Gen. Nathanael. So the elder Elisha was a second cousin of the general. Of course, Clarke is a secondary source, but well-documented for the time of its publication (1903). The evidence of the deed is verifiable and if James was not joined by his wife while his brothers were, then that becomes a challenge to overcome the presumption that he was not married at that time. I hope this helps. Bill Notify Administrator about this message?
