Fred Hass is my great-great-grandfather. I have been searching in vain for his parents, and I have been told bo other researchers that perhaps the last name was changed from Haas to Hass, perhaps when the family emigrated to the United States.

Fred (aka Fritz) was born in Galmetz State, Brandenburg, Germany on 31 Oct 1833. Christened on 3 Mar 1860 in Templin, Brandenburg, Germany. Married about 1856 to Wilhelmina Schumacher. His family emigrated to the USA, arriving at New York on 21 Apr 1875; he came sometime later. He died 21 Mar 1927 in Steamboat Rock, Hardin County, Iowa, USA and was buried there on 24 Mar.

Wilhelmina was born in Sternhagen Province, Brandenburg, Germany. She died on 6 Feb 1916 in Steamboat Rock, Hardin County, Iowa, USA and was buried there on 9 Feb.

They had 7 children: Carl, Fred Jr., Augusta, Maria, Minnie, Louise and Ferdinand.
