Marriage and Children of Nathan Haas & Esther Merkel of Shanesville, Earl Twp PA

Information on the marriage of Nathan Haas and Esther Merkel of Berks County, PA is contained on the Trauungen (Marriages) column on the Family Register pages in the Haas family Bible. It says in translation: "On 14th September 1844 Nathan Haas was married to Ester Merkel by Pastor Helfrich".

Information on the children of Nathan Haas and Esther Merkel is contained on the Geburten (Births) column on the Family Register pages in the Haas family Bible.

Children listed are:
1. Maria Anna Haas geboren den (born the) 14th February 1846 (2/14/1846)
2. Wilhelm Merkel Haas born 1/29/1849
3. Loiuise Emmeleine Haas born 1/14/1852
4. Hanna Catharine Haas born 5/20/1856
5. Fanny Susanna Haas born 4/21/1859
6. Lenore Florent Haas born 9/27/1864

For each of these children:

1. and 2. The Sterbefalle (Deaths) column on the Family Register pages indicates that Maria and Wilhelm died in 1851.

4. According to the Saturday October 3, 1874 Berks and Schuylkill Journal, Henry Z. Moser of Bechtelsville was married to Hannah M. Haas of Oley on September 26th 1874 by Rev. L. Groh. This is posted at:

5. According to http://www.familysearch.org , WALLACE L. LECHNER married FANNIE M. HAAS on 24 AUG 1878 in Berks County, Pennsylvania. One can assume that Fannie had the extended name Fannie Susanna Merkel Haas. Note: The front cover of this Bible has the signature "Chas. H. Lechner July 25, 1933", indicating that he came into posession of this Bible at that time. Page 1297 of the Historical and Biographical Annals of Berks County by Morton Montgomery at http://www.rootsweb.com/~paberks/books/montgomery/l03.html shows that Wallace and Fannie had 3 children Samuel, Hannah, and Charles. Charles' middle initial would stand for Haas.

6. According to the NEW HANOVER LUTHERAN CHURCH (NEW HANOVER TOWNSHIP) RECORDS OF MARRIAGES compiled from "PA German Society Precedings; Vol 2; Book 1909" located at http://www.historyslice.com/crossrefs/hano0001.htm , George Washington Drumheller married Eleanora Florinda Haas on 23 July 1881.
