Haas Family Genealogy Forum

Dear Wenzel,
I have some good news. I have also been studying into the back ground of my Grandfather's family who were indeed real life Baron and Baroness von Haas and they also came from Austria and Prague, which shows Paul knows what he's talking about. My Great Grandfather was Baron Richard von Haas was a fine musian and owned and operated the Music Conservatory of Vienna. Apparently they also had an estate that was suddenly confinscated and taken over by the communists during the outbreak of World War I, when the borders changed. From there, my Great Grandfather took his American socialite wife, Martha Hatry in 1914, and moved away from all the trouble to New York City where he opened another Conservatory of Music in the same name. During the out break of World War II my family did away with the 'von' title altogether as there was anti-germanic sentiment in America. Thus, my parents use of Van instead of von in my name. If you have any other info to help me find the location of the actual Richard von Haas family estate in Prague and Vienna, it would be well appreciated.
Best Regards,
Gary Van Haas
