I am trying to place my gggrandmother, Mary Hackett Murray into the proper family and not having much luck. My gggrandfather was Patrick Murray b. 1812 and he married Mary in 1831 in Curraghtarsna which is listed as her address. The marriage was witnessed by a Thomas Hacket(t) and various children were sponsored by Mary, Catherine, Thomas, and Daniel Hackett (as well as by individuals with surnames Burke, Maloney, Maher, Skehan, and Wall). The children were in turn born all in the same area, Curraaghtarsna, Knockbrit, Magorban, and Moyglass.
I know there was a Walter Hackett who owned land and a quarry in the Curraghtarsna area with a house in Ballinure (just a mile or so from Curraghtarsna). I also ran across a lineage some time ago of a Maj. James Hackett with son, Thomas, who then had sons Patrick, Edward, Walter, John, and James. I'm curious to know if my Mary may fit in as a sister to these men as her age is appropriate, and the son of Patrick and Mary Murray, Thomas, went to the US as a young adult and immediately found work in a quarry. Coincidence? He named his son Walter!
I'll be traveling to the area in March and following up on a few leads, but to date (3 other visits) have been unable to find information about this landowning Walter Hackett or find where he and his family might be buried (also unable to find burial places for my Patrick and Mary so was wondering if they might have been buried with her family). I'll be attempting some research in Dublin this year for the first time (valuation office and griffiths/census records). Any information or suggestions would be appreciated. bruceb.
