Hi-
Oral history and a single surviving letter from long ago indicates that my great great grandfather, O.C. Hackett, came to California for the gold rush via the isthmus of Panama. He was here for a year, then went back to run the family farm in Charleston Illinois. We think he was here with a couple of brothers -- James and John. His son Frederick came back to California early in the 20th century. We've been here ever since.
Does anybody out there have any information on Charleston, Illinois Hacketts coming to California for the gold rush?
