Betts, Charles M, 15th PA Cavalry: Monument 1906: Died 10 November 1905 Obituary: Friday, November 17, 1905, "The Germantown Independent-Gazette" Col. Charles M. Betts Dead Colonel Charles M. Betts, of Charles M. Betts & Co., lumber dealers, died on Friday last at his home, 515 Lincoln Drive. Death was caused by heart failure, complicated by pneumonia. He received his title in the Civil War, serving with the Fifteenth Pennsylvania Anderson Cavalry. He was born in Bucks county sixty-eight years ago. He came to Philadelphia and engaged in the lumber business. He founded the firm which bears his name. His wife was Louisa G. Hance. He is survived by her, three sons and a daughter. He was a member of the Society of Friends and of the following organizations: The Union League Club, Merion Cricket Club, Loyal Legion, G. A. R., Medal of Honor Legion and the Pennsylvania Historical Society. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, services being held at the headquarters of Post 2, G. A. R.
