Douglas,
You are probably in my line of Hargers since they are from that area and as you know the name is not common. My great grandfather was a William Harger married to Alice, his father was Edwin Harger married to Mary McKelvey, and his father was a George Harger died June 20th, 1870, aged 63 and his wife Catherine Holmes died July 19, 1882 aged 80 years. Most all the Hargers in this area are related and stem from George's father Peter Harger 1767-1819. George and Peter are buried in Peters Creek Baptist Church Cemetery near Library, Pa. I'm not sure who had what siblings. Look at the posting on this page titled Harger family, W. Pa by George Jenkins.
Another wealth of information is the Harger Heritage Newsletter and it's producer Georgiana Steveens.
I have saw a directory which listed George L. Harger, pilot 618 California Ave, Bellevue. (were your folks the river boat pilots?
Another good place to look is the Historic Pittsburgh Project. Don't recall the total web address but it's something like http://digital library.pitt.edu
I'll look in my 1880 census since George L. Sr. should be there.
E-mail me if I can be of any further help.
