Marilyn, I have spent more than ten years gathering up info on Hartons wherever I could. As you can see on this site, some are in Canada and I have found others in Alsace, France, Denmark, Ireland, and England. There is a village of Harton near South Shields, England, and I think for lots of reasons that the Hartons were descended from Vikings who settled a number of places in that area. Do try the Pegram Family Album at http://patch.net for more information on the Harton kin in the Warren Co., NC, area. The best advice I can give anyone is to start with yourself and work back one generation at a time. Beware of jumping to conclusions based on someone else's research. Good luck. Jane
