My family too comes from the state Schelswig-Holstein, in the vicinity of Elmshorn not too distant from Hamburg.
Unfortunately, I don't have any information about the pre-existing family in Germany prior to my grandparents, Johannes Heitmann and his wife Helene Catherine Heitmann. They left Germany in 1912 with four sons Max, Henry, and Willy ages 7, 5, and 4 respectively. They emmigrated to the south suburban area of Chicago finally settling down in Dolton, Il. My father, Edward Frederick, was born in the US in 1916. All have since passed away.
Where in Schleswig-Holstein does your family hail from?
