It is believed by several Henderson researchers that Samuel Henderson did have a son, Oakely, and there definitely was an Oakely Henderson who migrated through AL in 1840 and landed in Itawamba Co., MS by 1850. The records I've found indicate that Oakely was born 11 Nov 1808 and died 18 Dec 1875. I believe these dates are from cemetery records published in one of the issues of the Itawamba Settlers Quarterly magazine. In at least a couple of the MS censuses, it states that Oakely was born in SC.
Oakely's son, Daniel Henderson, born 1844 in AL, migrated to TX between 1870 and 1880, and I have been trying to help a friend who is a great grandson of Daniel resarch his ancestry.
I have just been looking at the early York Co., SC census records, and there are two Samuel's there in 1820, and one has a male in the the 16-26 year age bracket, which would be right for Oakely born 1801.
I'm not sure what other SC records may be found to firm up Oakely as a son of Samuel. I'm in the process of checking that out now.
