There are quite a few Herreros around the US as well as in Latin America. My husband's greatgrandfather, Fermin Herrero Molaguero, left from Palencia, Spain, to Cuba, where he married and died in 1889. He was a Colonel with the Spanish Army. The Herrero name is supposed to be originally from Santander, but since it is a descriptive name (smith) it is possible the name surfaced in many areas. In what area of Santander did your greatgrandfather live? Also, do you know his second last name, that is the name of his mother? I've just recently started to search for information the Herreros. You were really lucky to come across someone from the same area and establish contact with relatives.
