Herrero Family Information

Well, this might be usefull to all of you out there...My family lives in Panama (only me and my brother are in the States, me in New York City and my brother in Boston, we have a cousin on my mothers side in Philly and that's it). anyways...The most that I know is that my great grandfather came to Panama at the beginning of the 1900's...they came from Spain (Santander, Spain) of his brother's went to Argentina and now our family lives in Olavarria (Argentina)...his name (great granfather) was Jose Herrero (his nickname was Joselon, becasue he was very tall)...His offspring that I know of were Luis Herrero (my grandfather) Romero Herrero (he had a twin sister call Julieta, and his name was actually Romeo (Romeo y Julieta) but Panamanian authorities screwed up and put on his ID Romero and he kept it)...there was also Ruperto Herrero, Jesus Herrero (Jesusito) and a couple others that died when very young, these came from spain very small and didn't survived the Panamanian weather, jungle, etc...

Now, my grandfather had two sons and two daughters, Luis Herrero (Beby), Jose Herrero (Tuto, my father), Oris Herrero and Mimi Herrero (she married a Puerto Rican army guy)...

Recently (middle 80's) another relative surfaced, and we met him by chance in Panama. He wanted to open some restaurants and needed insurance, and since one of my aunts is an insurance agent, she sold him the insurance, when she asked him his name, he said Herrero. She told him that that was impossible since she the only Herrero family in Panama is ours (She first confused the name with Herrera or Guerrero, like it always happens till this day with us in Panama, since our name is not very common as the others that I just said)...

So we found out that he came from the very same area in Santander as our family...

My brother some years ago went there to meet the family (a trip that I will make next year)...he found the chapel that my great grandfather married in before he came to Panama, it was very exciting...

And to make this story even more exciting, he met a cousing of ours that has THE SAME FACE as our first cousin in Panama...I saw pictures, it is the same face, diferent body...amazing, truly amazin...

If this is of any help, email me at

I've always wanted to start a family tree and trace my side of the family...just that this website only appears to have info on's discouraging but not too much...

Ler me know if you can use more of my help...and email with anything...I live in New York City for now and would like to meet more Herreros...

Saludos y buena suerte...

Jose Alberto Herrero
