Heather,
It seems you and I have the same James Blackburn Higdon being married to Margaret Carmichael Girdley (Girdler) and both dying (him: 1911; her: 1901) in Texas with >4 children.
My dilemma is in the search for his parents. I know from Charles Gates, who sent me a Bible entry, that James Blackburn Higdon's parents were Decatur Higdon (b. about 1847, in ? Tennessee and Martha Henderson b. about 1863 in North Carolina ?). I know from that Bible entry that Decatur died young, and that afterwards Martha took her family to live with the Dykes (her family), and shortly afterwards, James and maybe one sibling (sister? named Sarah ?) went to live with an uncle, whom I presume to be Blackburn Higdon. I do not have any census entries to back up the early years of my g. grandfather. However, in 1880 Jackson, ALA census, Blackburn Higdon's family mentions that a nephew named James (b. about 1865) and a niece (b. about 1868) named Sarah E. were living with them and they were neighbors of John Dikes and his wife, Martha.
So, my question is,- do you have any information about this James Blackburn Higdon in relation to his parents?
THanks for whatever help you can give me.
