Your grandfather was the son of Robert Abell Higdon and Emily "Emma" Winstead. Robert Abell was the son of Thomas H. Higdon and Catherine Martha Mattingly. Thomas H. was the son of Peter Higdon and Anna Pierce who migrated to Kentucky from Maryland sometime around 1800 along with many other members of both the Higdon and Pierce families. They settled in Washington County, Kentucky first and started their family. Most of their children were baptised at St Rose Catholic Church just outside of Springfield, Kentucky. They then went next door to Bardstown, Nelson County, Kentucky until about 1822. Peter is listed as an original member of the St Lawrence Catholic settlement in Knottsville, Daviess County, Kentucky which was established in 1822. If you want more info, email me.
