Diane:

I need to clarify a few things.

1.       I am not sure if Elizabeth Hill Higdon is buried at St. Benedict Cemetery, near Wax, KY or not.

2.       The information that I provided from "Grayson Co., KY Cemeteries Vol. III", is as stated: (e.g., Bennett HIGDON (s/o John T. & Elizabeth A. HIGDON, b. 7 Feb 1842, d.?). In other words, I am assuming that the chronicler of this information got the information from the tombstone or from Church records. So this means that Bennett HIGDON is the son of John T. & Elizabeth A. HIGDON. Bennett was born on 7 Feb 1842 and there is not a death date available. This information does not infer that Elizabeth is buried at St. Benedict.

3.       There are many HIGDONs buried in this cemetery. Unfortunately, I have only one copied page from “Grayson Co., KY Cemeteries Vol. III" because at the time I was only interested in Samuel Charles HIGDON and Joannah HIGDON my ggggrandparents. It just happens that the information that I provided you is on that same page. At some point I will have to try and get a copy of this book or try and copy more pages.

4.       The book, “Descendents of John Higdon and Millicent 1657-1998" by Gena Theiss, is a treasure trove for those exploring and investigating their HIGDON roots. Gina Theiss did a magnificent job. As you know as more information and sources become available additions and corrections may be required to the printed material. For example, in “Descendents of John Higdon and Millicent 1657-1998", James Ignatius HIGDON is shown as the second child of John Thomas and Elizabeth Hill HIGDON. James Ignatius was born 3 Mar 1846 in Grayson Co., KY and died 3 Mar 1906 in Grayson Co., KY. Also, James Ignatius HIGDON is shown as the sixth child of Samuel Charles and Joannah HIGDON. This James Ignatius was born 18 March 1846 in Millerstown, Grayson, Co., KY and died 7 October 1932, Clarkson, Grayson Co., KY.

5.       Now the inconsistencies deepen. “Grayson Co., KY Cemeteries Vol. III" show that in the St. Benedict Cemetery, near Wax, KY (my one page copy) that James N. HIGDON (s/o Samuel and Joannah HIGDON) was born 1844 and died 1932. Is this “Nace”? And James HIGDON (s/o Samuel and Joannah HIGDON) was born 3 Mar 1846 and died 3 Mar 1906. Is this Ignatius s/o John Thomas? With so much information were data transcribed incorrectly from the source records? Obviously, more investigation is required to determine which information is correct. That is the attraction of doing genealogy research

6.        “Descendents of John Higdon and Millicent 1657-1998” shows that Ignatius Higdon (sometimes designated JR to differentiate him from his father, Ignatius) parentage as follows: Ignatius, William, John. All of these individuals resided in Charles County, MD. At some point Ignatius, Jr. moved to Montgomery Co., MD. I am currently investigating Ignatius, Jr.’s participation in the War of 1812. I also believe that he moved his family to KY in the 1815-1820 timeframe.

I am always open to better and more informed information if it is out there.

Sorry for long post,

Charlie
