Charles, (and Diane),

I'm sure by now you've read Diane's post stating my description of Bennet and Margaret's gravestone. The fact that Margaret's sister, Mary Elizabeth was married to a James Ignatius and that they share a tombstone that is identical to Margaret and Bennet's does seem to lend credence to a close relationship between Bennet and James Ignatius. Now, this is a little complicated but I will try to state it so that you can follow me; Mary Elizabeth outlived her husband, James Ignatius by 34 years and they are buried together, so it is highly unlikely that James I. divorced her, married someone else and then allowed his exwife to bury him with herself. I have a list of 11 children attributed to this marraige. Looking at the other James Ignatius, with similar birth date attributed to Samuel Charles, he married Ann Elizabeth Johnston in 1870 and I have a list of 7 children attributed to this marriage, none of whose names duplicate any of the 11 from the OTHER James I. I do not have any documentation of the burial locations of this couple so cannot say for sure if this James I and the other James I are one in the same by a series of misinformation or not. The first thing that I am going to do after this posting is go to the 1850 Census for Grayson Co. and see what I find. The James N. that the publication says is buried at St Benedict, I have no photo of that stone and I took photos of EVERY Higdon in the cemetery. As far as I know, the woman who wrote that book got her info from the stones, not from church records, so I guess his stone could be one that is unreadable now, but I've never seen it. In Diane's follow-up post to this post she stated that Elizabeth Ann Hill Higdon's records say that she was buried at the cemetery near Grayson Springs, that would be St Augustine which is in Grayson Springs, but I've never seen her stone there either. It's gotta be somewhere!! I think it's time for another trip of grave hopping in Grayson County for me.
As for Ignatius, his first son, Jonathon Ignatius was born in Kentucky in 1801. His first wife's name is unknown but she died shortly after his birth and Ignatius returned to Maryland where he married Mildred Dyson around 1806. Their first 3 children were born in Maryland, the 3rd in 1812 and their 4th, John Thomas, was born in Kentucky in 1814,
so they came to Kentucky sometime between those 2 children.
Elisa
