Charles,
By the way, in that book, Grayson County Cemeteries Vol III, the references to parentage for Samuel and Bennet do not appear on the stones, so that information was added by the author. She also says that Mildred Dyson's stone says Millie E. and this is not true. Her stone has a very interesting misspelling by the cutter. Word for word this is what her stone says: 'Sacred to the Memory of "Milebred" E Higdon Who was borned September 18, 1789 and Departed This Life November the 1, 1854'. Her stone is lying flat and I had to dig through years of dried grass and sand to uncover it. Ignatius is buried near her and his stone is upright and reads; 'Sacred to the Memory of Ignatious Higdon Who departed this Life December the 3, 1846 in the 63 year of his life'. Their son, James is buried very near them and his stone reads very much the same and is identical in style to Ignatius'. Wax, Kentucky is just across the Nolin River from Hart County. Most of the original town including the original St Benedict Cemetery are now under the waters of the Nolin Reservoir. The cemetery was moved sometime in the 1950's. Many stones and remains were lost. The St Augustine Cemetery in Grayson Springs was also moved from it's original location near the banks of Bear Creek. It was moved very early in the late 1800's when the church burned and the new one was built at the present site. A lot of the old stones were lost or badly damaged. I intend to check the church records sometime this winter. Burial records for all 3 Catholic cemeteries in Grayson Co are housed at St Anthony's in Peonia. Anyway, sorry for going on and on...
Elisa
