We have discovered that there were indeed two Hilton or Helton families out of NC. Our Peter Hilton was in the Rev. War. b. 1752 and most certainly Native American. He joined the Rev. War in Surrey CO. NC and then was found in Burke CO. 1800-1820. McMinn CO. TN in 1830. Filed for Rev. War Pension in 1837 McMinn co and then married and moved to Carroll CO GA. Some say he was 105 when he died. Would love to see the Helton's in MO. DNA test at the Helton Family Tree DNA site. Would also like to see some from Nosho and other places test. Our family was in Ark early having one Hilton / Helton ancestor that came west in 1829 with the Cherokee Indians. I suspect that many more of our family are there but confused with the Helton's out of Orange NC. Our oral tradition says that our ancestor married a Hilton girl and took her name. I think our Indian married into the other Helton family, of Orange CO NC and need help with the history of Beecham Hilton, Halten, or Helton who according to Moravian Records had a mulatto Wife. This seems the most logical of all possibilities since our ancestors named one of their kids Beecham Hilton. He was in the Rev. War also. Family tree DNA project says that we have been around the Eastern United States for about 5,000 years. Our ancestor was a full blood that married a Hilton around 1720-45. I am not saying that James Helton is our Peter Hilton's son but wish that we had more information from the DNA perspective. Mike Helton Notify Administrator about this message?
