Please check out the Helton Family Genealogy Forum, in particlular the Abraham Helton married Katie Owl postings. There are Helton and Merritts who applied to the Guion Miller Cherokee Nation. Larkin Helton was a son of John and Dicey Helton out of NC. He was in Lumpkin GA and had the property that latter became Helton Falls. I think this would be a logical place to look. With a name like Larkin Merritt Helton, it appears more than circumstantial. Our family used the Hilton/Helton name interchangeably. There were also several Wilsons that made applications with the Merritts also.
