David McNEAR & Maria HILTON in Lincoln Co., Maine

Hello. I only have time for a brief query this morning. I can offer more information later in the day, or tomorrow.

I am interested in a couple, Charles McNEAR / MacNEAR and Amelia RICE, both of Maine, who seem to have moved down to MA ~1870. They first lived in Boston and then settled in Medford, MA, near there. Amelia was the older sister of my great-great-grandfather, Charles RICE. He had also come down to MA ~1870 and married here in 1875. Unfortunately, just after their 2 daughters were born, they "separated." I don't know where he lived after he left Winchester, MA, but he eventually lived in Milton, MA. He seems to have been always close to his sister, Mrs. Amelia McNEAR. But, I have found no evidence that he remained in close touch with his 2 daughters, Mrs. Louise KIDDER and Miss Edith RICE of Arlington and Winchester, MA.

One researcher on-line stated that Charles McNEAR was the son of David McNEAR and Maria HILTON of Lincoln Co., Maine.

The 1880 census for MA has Charles and Amelia McNEAR in East Boston, MA, have 2 ladies living with them. They appear to be Mrs. Elizabeth HILTON, a widow, and her teen-age daughter.

My main purpose is finding descendants of the 4 sons of Charles and Amelia McNEAR. I'd love to find out if they have a picture of Charles RICE. No one in my family knows what he looked like. He died at his nephew's home in 1916. (We do have pictures of his EX, Adelaide, in Winchester, and of his 2 daughters.)

Betty (near Lowell, MA)
