Just noticed this website when i was searching for something about my ancestor James Hoban, the original architect of the White House. I have a son in Charleston SC who is kind of a history buff and was trying to find architecture in Charleston that was to James Hoban's credit as well. My grandfather Edward Hoban, lived in New York and had our family tree traced which directed us to the lineage directly to James. Later, my grandfather and grandmother (Mary Asta) also from New York moved to the Minneapolis area. I don't have the copy of the transcript with me, but the name Hoban is derived from the surname "uban" which means the point of a thing!!Whatever that means....There were also many catholic priests, and bishops listed on my family tree which immigrated from Ireland as well. I also remember seeing a picture of "Bridget Bones" who looked alot like you would imagine in our attic, however I don't remember who she had married, etc...in the Hoban clan. Anyway, feel free to email me with any further info that might be of interest to me...Thanks!!!
