Welcome all researches of the HUGEBACKs/HUGEBACHs/HOGEBACKs families and variations! The HUGEBACK/HOGEBACK families appear to have come to America in the mid-1800s from the same region in Germany and settled in the Ohio valley (on to Indiana, Illinois, and beyond), and Penn, Wisconsin, Minn, Iowa, and beyond. I've seen the name in several variations back in to the 1500's in the Vechta, Visbek, Cloppenburg, Goldenstedt, Wildeshausen, and Ellenstedt (just to name a few) area of what was Oldenburg province. Many of the families are Catholic.
