Holland, 82, of Viola, IA, died Saturday evening, January 17, 2009, at the Jones Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Preston T. Holland was born September 10, 1926, at Greenville, Greene Co TN. He was the son of Everett K. and Letha Kennedy Holland. Preston attended school in the Greenville area. He went on the serve in the United Sates Army in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Preston married Gladys Broyles on August 30, 1947 at Jonesboro, TN. The couple lived in the Whittier and Central City area before moving to Viola. Preston was employed at Wilson Foods for 30 years retiring in 1979. He also operated Veterans Public Safety for many years doing security work for events and fairs in the area as well as the Old Thrashers Reunion in Mount Pleasant. Preston’s second career spanned almost another 30 years working in maintenance at Jones Regional Medical Center where they celebrate Preston Holland Day on October 23. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys; a son, Tom Holland; a brother, Freeman Holland; and three sisters, Lena Mae, Nada and Estelle Tench. Preston married Juanita Franco on January 12, 2004. Preston was always active fishing and hunting ginseng, turkey and deer. He also loved to garden and can. He also supplied and organized a fish fry for the hospital staff every year. Most of all he liked to teach his grandchildren all the special things he knew. Surviving are four children, Nancy (Buck) Eilers, Sheilah Ralston, both of Anamosa, Curtis Holland, Viola and Dana (Julie Weets) Holland, Morley; a brother, Orgal (Carolyn) Holland, Clarksville, TN; nine grandchildren, nine great- grandchildren; and special nephew, Delmar (Judy) Phillips, of Anamosa. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. Jim May will officiate at the services. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, January 22, 2009, at the Viola Methodist Church with interment in the Wilcox Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
