Our Hugh Holland line settled in the Pelham and Athol, Mass. area, before the family began to move west. My ancestor, Elihu Holland eventually settled in central New York near Cortland, where he farmed, lived, and died. His son Chester, moved to Ohio, where his family was born, before moving on to Michigan, where he is buried. Another son of Elihu, Elihu Goodwin Holland, was a famous writer, preacher, and lecturer and he taught and lectured in Germany and England during the 1850's. He published many books, and also served as Chaplain of the 156th New York volunteers.
