I spent a great deal of time over the years researching Gabriel Holland and I never found any evidence where his first name was Francis. There was a Gabrielle Hollande christened at St. Martin in the Fields Parish, London 2-15-1596. His parents are not known because the Parish christening records do not include parents, only the name of the infant and date of Baptism. . There are no records proving this Gabrielle Hollande was the same Gabriel Holland who died of natural causes at Berkeley 100, Virginia in 1621 shortly after arriving on the ship “Supply” . There are also no records proving the Gabrielle Hollande, christened at St. Martin in the Fields Parish, London was the Gabriel Holland who arrived in Virginia on the ship “John and Francis” in 1620-1621 with his wife Rebecca. John Boddie, author of Southern Historical Families written in 1955 writes, “Sergeant Gabriel Holland was living at Jamestown at the time of the Indian massacre in 1622, His wife, Mary, (second wife) was granted a patent of 12 acres on the Island of James City August 14, 1624.They appear in the record books of the General Court up to about 1627. but disappeared after that“ Lyon Gardiner Tyler, L.L.D was the son of President John Tyler and served as President of William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Virginia from 1888 until 1918. In Tyler’s book, The Cradle of the Republic, he describes the development and topography of Jamestown between 1624 and 1628 One section states “ adjoining his tract already mentioned and bordering on the south by the land of Mary Holland , widow of Gabriel Holland and west on that of Thomas Passmore, carpenter” Regardless of what was written, without providing sources, by two people, I never found any verifiable informatgion proving Gabriel Holland had any children by either of his two wives, Rebecca and Mary Pinke, particularly John Holland of Nansemond County, Virginia.
