My great grandfather and his brother were named Keene (sp?). They came from London, England to Nicaragua with their wives to run a shipping line on the San Juan River. There was a third partner named John Hollenbeck - I know for a fact that he is the Los Angeles Hollenbeck. They carried mail - the Nicaragua Route is quite famous. An extraordinary tragedy occured circa 1875 - give or take a few years. My great grandfather bore a remarkable resemblance to the current (much hated) dictator of Nicaragua and he was assasinated by mistake. The same day his brother died falling off a ladder. There is a lot more to their history but I know from stories I heard as a child that your Hollenbeck was the sole surviving partner and was the founder of the Hollenbeck Line. That doesnt help much with your question about Dr. Rix but it does explaib why mail was addressed c/o Hollenbeck.
