I am part of the Hooley's and they originate from Derby and Nottingham and have seen the Hooley name as Howley. How it ever changed it is not certain.
Up around Pleasant Grove and Lindon, Utah there is a lot of Hooley's where I am from, all related.
My sister while living in Wales, visited Ireland and found a Pub called O'Hooley. I've heard that Hooley is a Irish name, we have only traced the name in England to the 1600's.
