I am hoping to find someone that has connected the Horton’s of Brunswick Co., VA, Wake Co., NC and Chesterfield Co., SC. The following information is from primary research with exception of some of the Horton family information which I have found online. 1 Amos Horton Sr. + Sarah Peebles (?) 2 Amos Horton Jr., son of Amos Horton Sr. + Jean/Jane Ezell (m. between 1766-1769), widow of William Ezell Jr. d. 1766 in Brunswick Co., VA 2 Daniel Horton, son of Amos Horton Sr. + Mary Ezell (?) Note: William Ezell Sr. d. 1775 in New Hanover Co., NC, father of William Ezell Jr. d. 1766 in Brunswick Co., VA whose widow married Amos Horton Jr., names in his will various grandchildren of the surname Batts, including a grandson William Batts. [Therefore, Amos Horton Jr.’s wife Jean/Jane would seem to have had a brother-in-law of the surname Batts from her previous marriage]. I think this grandson William Batts is one of the two William Batts that appear in Chesterfield Co., SC by the 1800 census. [There are deeds in New Hanover Co., NC in 1797 between a John Batt/Batts of New Hanover Co., NC and a William Batt/Batts of Chesterfield Co., SC]. How does the John Horton noted below connect with the Horton’s I’ve already noted? John Horton b. Wake Co., NC (? – only one source I find online states that John Horton originated from Wake Co., NC) d. Chesterfield Co., SC m. Elizabeth Stanley (is there proof of this marriage), daughter of James Stanley of Jones Co., NC d. May 1793, had children: 1 - William Batts Horton 2 - Nancy Horton m. Washington Thompson 3 - Winifred Horton m. Aaron Knight 4 - Samuel Horton 5 – Mary Horton d. 1833 (?) 6 - John Horton 7 - Elizabeth Horton m. James Knight Lucy Stanley, daughter of James Stanley of Jones Co., NC d. May 1793, m. William Batts, presumably one of the two William Batts that appear in Chesterfield Co., SC. James Stanley’s will mentions daughter “Lucy Bats”. William Batts is granted land in Jones Co., NC adjacent James Stanley in 1787. William Batt [Batts] and wife Lucy sell land in Jones Co., NC to a John Westbrook in 1796. Notify Administrator about this message?
