I am a descendent of Elizabeth Catherine Horton and William R. Brown. There is a story of a wagon train that had left Mo with the Brown families and the Sechrists. A wagon train (21?) left Missouri for Texas in 1878... "In 1878 William and Elizabeth and their children and their families considered moving to Erath County. Solomon and Manerva Sechrist were selected to go check out the land, which they did. They came back with glowing reports, so in the spring of 1879, the Browns, Sechrists, McGehees, Hamiltons, and others, packed up their possessions and started out in a wagon train to Texas. It took them several months to reach Stephenville, the county seat of Erath County. There they camped looking for land to buy. After looking over the territory, William and Elizabeth bought 300 acres of land on 16 June 1879 of Stephen Smith Survey of land situated on the waters of Armstrong creek near Victor in the western part of Erath County. William built a log house for Elizabeth near Armstrong Creek under large oak trees. They lived their until 1880. (When Elizabeth died)" This family is found on the 1880 census of Erath county. I was wondering if this land record exists and if I can get it?? Elizabeth Catherine Horton is buried in Victor Cemetery, Victor, Erath Co., Texas. Father was John Horton, Mother Susan Grider.
