Horton DNA study - Surprising Result

Hello- I am emailing this group because of the surprising result of my father's DNA test. He has an almost exact match to several Hortons in the familytreedna.com group.

My father, Jay Anthon Ferrell's last known ancestor was William Wilford Ferrell born abt 1800 in North Carolina. He and his mother Nancy Ferrell lived in Wilson county Tennessee. We do not know if Ferrell was Nancy's married or maiden name.

He had a 46 marker DNA test through Ancestry.com. We see that most of the Horton family has used familytreedna.com for their DNA studies. Unfortunately family tree dna is a proprietary system - that is they don't allow for people who did not test through them to join the family group. I only know that he has a 29/30 match to Kit #'s 560308 and 60572. He has a 23/24 match to kit #'s 24881, 31703, 40950, and 44456.

Would it be possible to find out which specific ancestor's these kits match up with?

Also, if family members are interested they may want to consider forming another Horton DNA group with ancestry.com. There is no charge to form a group (just set up a user name and password), and members don't have to go through them for their DNA tests - they can enter their DNA results from any provider. I believe that their group interface is also more user friendly. Since it is open and not proprietary it may be the most helpful in the long run.

Thanks so much in advance!

Jaelene Ferrell Starr (or should that be Jaelene Horton Starr????) How interesting DNA research is!!!!
