Dessie HORTON, born 19 Sept.1898 MO, dau of George W. & Tilitha HORTON, married Clarence CARTER, son of Rufus CARTER, and resided in Indian Territory, Choctaw Nation, South East Oklahoma.
Do any of you Horton reearchers have info on this family?
Need information on Rufus CARTER and wife Cleo MARCHANT. They were the parents of three sons; John W. CARTER born 1894 in Panama Oklahoma , Clarence Gordon CARTER born 1896 in Panama Oklahoma, and Roy Edward CARTER born 1898 in Panama Oklahoma, Indian Territory, Choctaw Nation.
Rufus married Cleo MARCHANT on 29 January 1893 in Sebastian County, Arkansas. Cleo was the daughter of Wiley Scott MARCHANT (MERCHANT). Who were the parents of Rufus Carter? Did he and Cleo die before 1900?
I have not been able to find this family on the 1900 census. In 1910 John W. CARTER age 15, and Clarence CARTER, age 12, lived in LeFlore County, Oklahoma with their mother's sister Rosie and her husband Elmer MIZER. Roy (Ray) age 11, was in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma with his grandfather Wiley Scott MARCHANT and second wife Alice.
In 1930 John W. CARTER lived in Tulsa County, Oklahoma and died in September 1973 in Tarrent County, TX.
Clarence Gordan CARTER resided Haskell County, Oklahoma in 1930. He married Dessie HORTON and died in October of 1949.
Roy Edward CARTER lived in LeFlore County. Oklahoma in 1930. He died in California in August 1972.
