Can anyone identify this family? I can't seem to locate them in the census. Wondering where they were born/what state they came from.

Source: "Race, Slavery and Free Blacks. Series II. Petitions to Southern County Courts 1775-1867."

1849. Madison County Alabama
"In 1823, Elizabeth Brewer of Limestone County died, bequeathing to her daughter Mary Horton, wife of John B. Horton, a life estate in two female slaves, Winney and Harriett. According to the trust, at Mary's death, the slaves would go to the Brewer's grandchildren. In time, Winney gave birth to 3 children: Linda (Lena), Alick and John. In 1844, Harriett died in childbirth. The baby, Mary, frequently called Molly, survived and was given to Mary Horton's daughter who raised her"......(my edit<<and Mary asked for Molly to be part of her share, and was assured she would be>>end edit)......"Mary Horton died and Miranda married John P. Willis, at which time her father confiscated 4-year-old Molly and took her away. Now Miranda and her husband John P. Willis seek to regain possession of Molly as well as acquire a distributive share of the other slaves--Lydia now about 21, Alick about 19 and John about 16."

Only record I found is 1840 Madison County ALA South Half:
John B. HORTON

Thanks for your help!

Cynthia
