I descend from the Otey family of New Kent Co. VA . James Otey and wife Frances Graves Otey had several children including my line Sarah who married John Manning. Sarah's sister Elizabeth married Mr. James Howle. The Howles along with the Mannings and one of the Otey brothers (James Jr.) removed to Warren Co. KY by about 1819.
I find James and Elizabeth Howle in the 1850 Warren Co. KY Census and I've also located a book at the Louisville Filson Club Historical Library that has their graves abstracted. James birth is recored on his tombstone as December 10, 1780.
My question is the connection to the many Epaphroditus Howle's. James and Elizabeth Howle did have one son in their home in 1850 named Epaphroditus b. 1819 and one daughter Sebitha b. 1820. I think my James is the son of the Epaphroditus born February 13, 1756 dates from St. Peters parish Records.
Also, I know there is some connection to Pres. George Washington as the original E. Howle is mentioned in some of the Presidents personal papers that I have not been able to access as of yet.
I appreciate any light you can shed on this for me. Researching the collerateral lines in the Otey family has helped greatly in discovering info on them since so many of the New Kent records were destroyed.
