Thanks, Roberta, for at least checking your sources for me. I agree, "Gid" is no doubt a nickname, probably for Gideon. You may have given me a clue on the Ayle name that I also am researching (with little luck!). Just like Iams, Ayle is spelled differently many times depending what document you are looking at. Do you know of any website I can access that census or is that something I will have to find at the State Historical Society?
