Hello to all...I am happy to find this genforum site where Iams/Iiams/Ijams family researchers can help each other with family history. Elisha B. Iams was my great uncle, so I know a little bit about him and what he did (back in the 1930's and 1940's) to provide this Iams branch with information. As I read the posts down through the Ijams forum, I was angered to see some very judgmental and critical statements made about Uncle Elisha. Please know that those of us who knew him can most definitely vouch for his honest character and sincere committment to producing valid work. It never was part of his character to be pompous or to "make up" things just so this Iams family could make a claim to royalty. He absolutely was NOT a "genealogyhoaxer" as someone suggested. With regard to the ancestry of William Eyoms/Iiams of Arundel County, MD-Uncle Elisha spent several years traveling many places to research the documentation he provided us. I am within 100 mile radius of Elisha Iams family and we have known family dates and history. I will contact family members who may have some of his original documents. In the meantime, Elisha provided us with very useful infomation that he obtained on foot and through written correspondence-without the tools we now have in front of us and the ease of electrically contacting a genealogist to help him. This post will also be made to the Iams and Iiams Genforums. That aside, I am happy to be a part of this forum, to help anyone I can and to contribute any research.
