Dear Cara,
MOntefalcione is wonderful. If you have ever been to Naples or heard anything about it, you should leave those images aside, because Montefalcione is very different. A tiny hill top town surrounded by valleys of farms. Kind, gentle, calm people. WHen I got there at the end of AUgust, I got to meet with the AMyor, who p[osed in photographs with me and gavve me a seal of the town.
The town administrators are in a modern building at the bottom of the hill, along wiht other modern amenities. They are very helpful. I had already received a copy of my grandfather's birht certificate from them, just by writing to them! I got it in the mail. Once in Montefalcione, they helped me even more.
I also dream about the way our ancestors left, made their way to Naples and to AMerica. My family made it to Boston and then settled in a town FULL of Montefalcione's clans, Mansfield, Massachusetts, located next to Foxboro, Taunton,, not far from Providence RI, etc.
Cara, I would love to correspond more with you on this subject. I lived in Rome for four years and visited a cousin often in Naples. I share your fascination for this adventeure and the differences I've observed in the Italians who left and those who stayed behind.
