In a book with the history of names the name Ibbitson started as Ib and then went to Ibit. My family was in Helmsley and Hawnby North Yorkshire and some were baptised as Ibbotson and some as Ibbitson. Whether the records were hard to read or that was the actual name, but I had a researcher trace them back to there. They came to Canada in the later 1700's. Myra Anderson Canada
