Were you aware that apparently Melissa Hills may also be possibly be listed as "Marlissa D." in some of the Census and other records. The following is copied from the Jersey County Rootsweb site: Index to Register of Deaths, G-H

Casey, 1881, 1, 47 HILLS, Loftus O, 1878, 1, 20 HILLS, Malissa D, 1904, 2, 141 HILLS, Melissa, 1904, 2, 141 HINSON, Jane, 1890, 1, 134 HIRZ?, John, 1878, 1, 8 HITES, Mary, 1878, 1

Their son, Charles, married Amelia Barnes and they had several children, but all died. I believe Amelia to be a younger sister to my ggmother, Ella Barnes Mears who married Rector Hunniford Mears and lived in the Grafton area.

Would be interested in any info you have regarding Barnes or Mears. According to State of Illinois Marriage site, Charles had married Rosa Patton previous to Amelia. Stephen V was married to Rosetta Landon March 3, 1889.

George Raymond Mears, my grandfather had only one sister, Edith Sophronia Mears and she married Charles Overmeyer and also lived in Grafton. She mentions "Patton" in some of her personal papers, so I think the families had some connections. Good luck and thanks for any help. Larry
