Mary: You are so right about these frustrating seaches, but this one seems to be a monster! This search is for my husband's family. He knows his father, and beyond that is a mystery! The only information we have is his father's birth certificate which has his parents names, and that's about it. Anyway, this is what we know. The lady (my husband's grandmother) we are looking for is Nannie Holsapple. That is her maiden name. It says she was born in Kentucky, but not where. She married Walter Lane, but we don't know where. He was a telegrapher for the railroad in IL somewhere, again, don't know where. They had two sons, Gerald in 1907, and Henry in 1909, in Vermilion Co. Walter died a short time after the second son was born. Sometime between 1909-1917, Nannie met and supposedly married Jess First. They had a son, Heram Jasper First in 1917 (this is my husband's Dad) in Williamson Co. For whatever reason, Jess First and Nannie must not have stayed together because bafore 1922, she sent her first two sons to orphanages, and took my husband's father and moved to Indiana to live with her first husband's mother. She then placed my husband's father in a orphanage and eventually ended up back in or around Marion, Illinois. I have made contact with Nannie's second son Henry's daughter and she remembers trips to Marion to visit her. That's how we found out she died in a nursing home. To sum this all up, we don't know what Last name Nannie was using when she died. It would either be Holsapple, Lane , or First. We think it was "lane" as Henry's daughter knew her as grandma Lane. She also remembered some names of Nannie's relatives...A sister, Maggie Holsapple, who married someone with the last name Salyers. Another sister named Bett Holsapple. A brother, Jim Holsapple who married Estelle (maiden name unknown). Jim and Estelle's kids are Claude Holsapple, Lucille Holsapple, and Minnie Holsapple, who married someone with the last name Fraelick. All of these people were thought to live in williamson county. I have found nothing on any of them! The birth certificate of my father in law says that Nannie was 40 yrs old when he was born and his father, Jess First was 50 some (that's exactly what it says, sounds like he wasn't there for the birth and they didn't know his age)That's it! Sorry this is so long, and I hope it's not too confusing!!! Thank you again for your help!!! Oh yeah, Nannie was thought to have died in the 1950's, but after 1952.
Dana
