Herman McMullen Mine Guard, Dies Suddenly at 71. Herman McMullen, 71, Johnston City, a guard at Lake Creek Bell and Zoller Mine Northwest of Zeigler, died suddenly at 3 pm Thursday after completing the days work in the machine shop at the mine. At an inquiry held late Thursday it was determined that death was caused by coronary thrombosis, McMullen had been in failing health the past two years on account of a heart ailment. McMullen had been a resident of Johnston City 43 years, having gone there from Robards, Ky. He is survived by his wife, Minne Poole McMullen; a brother James McMullen, Johnston City; three sisters, Mrs. Ray Ligon and Mrs. Eula Hunter of Johnston City and Mrs. Effie Walker of Henderson, Ky. He was a member of AFL Hod Carriers Union. The body will lie in state at the Murman-Wilson funeral home, Johnston City, after 6 pm today. Funeral rites will be held at 2 pm Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. W.R. Warner, pastor of the First Methodist church in Johnston City, officiating. Burial will be in Lake View cemetery.
