Chamness Genealogy Since 1650: (ROOTS IN ENGLAND)

My "Roots" began in England. My 6G Grandfather and 6G Grandmother were Anthony Chamness of East Smithfield, London, England (born approximately 1650) and his wife Ann Pitts (born approximately 1655). Their grandson Anthony (1713-1777) was taken against his will from the London Bridge to America by ship and sold as an indentued servant. This is where my story begins.

Anthony, my 4G Grandfather, became an indentured servant in America, serving 7 years for his passage. Once free, he married my 4G Grandmother Sarah Cole in Maryland. They moved to North Carolina and became Quakers. Several of their descendents went to Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Tennessee. One of Anthony Chamness and Sarah Cole's sons was John Chamness, my GGG Grandfather.

John Chamness and Sally Berry, his second wife, were, as mentioned, my GGG Grandfather and GGG Grandmother. My line then goes to Illinois where Wiley Berry Chamness married Sarah Sally Krantz in Williamson County, IL. They, in turn, had a son Michael Monroe Chamness who married twice. Minerva Jane Huffstutler was Michael's second wife, my great grandmother. They had several children, one of whom was my grandmother, Mellie Jane Chamness Ferguson, who married Cecil Ferguson and had two daughters: one was my mother Juanita Ferguson Grisham, born in Marion, Williamson County, IL.

Many Chamnesses continued to move throughout the country to Arkansas, Texas, California, and Oregon.

Over the past ten years, I have put together 500 pages of research on the Chamness History and Genealogy in England and America. This branch of the Chamness heritage was once considered "LOST." Additional history is available in my new book: CHAMNESS GENEALOGY(1650-2007)

If you are interested in the book, please feel free to contact me.
