Thank you, Marian, for your offer of help. I know that John Scott married Mary Irving because I have a copy of his will. If you could find them in the 1801 Annan census with their children it would be a great help. I am descended from their son Simon Scott B: abt. 1801. I have all of Simon's descendants if that would be of interest to you. I would also like to find Thomas Irving and Janet Wilson, parents of Mary Irving, to see if there are any children at home with them in 1801.
In 1800 John Scott's father Simon Scott was lost at sea and if there is an entry for the widow of Simon Scott that would also be a help. These people were all involved with shipping and Simon Scott (B: abt. 1801) was a master mariner/ship captain and was still actively involved in this into his late 60s.
