I have the War of 1812 record of Gardner Jacks, Private 1st Regiment Mounted (Finley's), Ohio Militia, September 14 to October 14, 1812. The military record includes an statement from Martha Howlett dated June 27, 1816. She stated that she was the wife of Gardner Jacks, who died on June 22, 1813, leaving a daughter (unnamed in statement). Martha subsequently remarried to William Howlett. She makes the statement to obtain the pay that is still due to her late husband. Gardner Jacks is listed in the will of Richard Jacks of Surry County, North Carolina. Richard leaves part of his estate to the heirs of his deceased son, Guardner. I am presumming these men to be the same---how many Gardner Jacks' can there be? Hoping to find the name of the daughter of Gardner Jacks in Ross County, Ohio. Thomas E. Jacks
