Dear Violet,

Glad to have you in on the search with all your methodical and collating skills.

I have been on the Sparksfamilytree.com looking for Mary Sparks the daughter of Solomon Sparks who m. Richard Jacks without success. Interestingly the Sparks were seriously connected to the Gardiner/Gardner family in Maryland. I always wondered if the name Gardner wasn't the maiden name of Mary Jacks and not Sparks. I am wondering if indeed Mary Jacks was Mary Sparks if her father Solomon might not have been married to a Gardner. Gardner seems to have remained a family name. Richard and Mary had Gardner Jacks, their daughters Elizabeth Whalen and Polly Genry appear also to have had a son named Gardner.

If we assume that Richard Jacks did marry Mary Sparks the fact that a son Solomon Jacks was born unto Richard and Mary Jacks ca 1782 reenforces the thought that this Mary was still Mary Sparks Jacks. Was Solomon named after her father? I don't believe that a second wife would have named a son after the father of the previous wife.

Martha
