Hi Debra,
All of us who have been researching JACKS ancestors for years have heard the story that the original JACKS were French Hugenots who were escaping persecution and changed the name after they came here. So far, I've not seen ANY documentation for such in thirty years. Some also say that Jone JACKS (Jone is Welsh for John) came to Maryland from England. There IS a mention of Jone in Gus Skordas' EARLY SETTLERS OF MARYLAND, but nothing that connects him to Thomas JACKS, our earliest American ancestor. With so many of us looking for the same information, maybe ONE of us will come across the records. Hope so. Also, I have a death certificate for Sarah JACKS whose maiden name was MULLIS, sent to me by Parke County officials as my Great Grandmother Sarah REEDER Jacks' record. E-mail me: violetck@aol.com
