A jolly family reunion was held last Sunday at the residence of L.D. GARBER in Center Township in honor of Grandma GARBER's 7lst birthday. The participants were Grandma GARBER, her children and their families. There are 46 in all but some could not be present, however there were 42 sat down to the bountiful repast at noon. The little folks gave a literary entertainment in the afternoon after which some time was spent in singing sacred songs. The following genealogy was read by F.A. GARBER:
CHRISTIAN SEARS was born in Switzerland in the year l730. He was a herdsman and told his children he had herded his flocks on the Alps above the clouds and washed his face and hands in the clouds. He was a member of the Dunkard Church therefore was opposed to war and would not serve in the army but emigrated to Holland, and from there to Penn's Possessions in the new world about l755. He afterward moved to Maryland and from there to North Carolina. ESTHER, his daughter, was born in the year l765. She was married to MICHAEL PEEBLER and moved to Kentucky where MICHAEL PEEBLER, Jr. was born in the year l800. MICHAEL PEEBLER, Jr. was married to MISS FANNIE JACKS in Missouri. From there they moved to Carthage, Ill., where NANCY, their daughter was born Sept. l0, l833. NANCY PEEBLER was married to SAMUEL A. GARBER in Jefferson County, Iowa, and together they moved to Decatur County in l855, where they raised their family of 4 boys and three girls, on the present old homestead. Father GARBER was killed by lightning June lst, l888. The children all reside in Decatur County at present.
