This is my wife's great grandfather. He was born in Alabama and was called Captain. I am assuming this was in the Confederate Army, although I have no records of this. He moved to Louisiana in 1865. Although married he had a relationship with a Lelia Popelewis and had a son named Robert Ruffin Barrow Jacks (Dec, 1877.This was my wife's grandfather. My question is who was Lelia Popelewis? I can find no record of this family name and think it was something she made up. The name Robert Ruffin Barrow as the name of a very prominent person in southern Lousiana, a sugar baron, listed as one the richest men in America at the time.
