Hi Jared:
Had lost your e-mail address, so we haven't corresponded for a while. My theory is the name was changed by the census takers misspelling the name Jacoups. I have found it spelled Jacoups, Jacobs, Jacoubs, and Jacolbs in the census. The same thing happened with my father's family in the Sevier County Tennessee Census. Three consecutive census with same parents, children, etc. -- Robinson, Robertson, Roberson. My mother's family spelled it Jacoups, but in the Walker County Marriage records they spelled it Jacobs (Emma, Maud and Minnie May Jacoups, my mother's sisters, were listed Jacobs)
